St Lucia MP blasts treatment of cattle farmers
Government’s behaviour ‘totally unacceptable’

An opposition member of parliament in St Lucia has criticised the government for the way they’re treating cattle farmers as part of the Desert Star Holdings project.
Kenny D Anthony, St Lucia Labour Party MP for Vieux Fort South, said the behaviour was “illegal, outrageous and totally unacceptable.”
According to Anthony, the contractor who was engaged – which be believes was by the government of Saint Lucia – to carry out road works ostensibly for re-directing traffic, destroyed “without notice, lawful authority or consultation” part of the fence which protected their cattle from roaming on nearby roads and the airport perimeter.
The contractor also destroyed a pond from which the animals secured drinking water, he added.
As a result of these actions, some of the animals roamed freely causing damage to nearby property.
WIC News understands that neither the St Lucia government or the previous landowners – Invest St Lucia – discussed the matter with farmers in the area.
The land has been used for farming for several years. The previous St Lucia Labour Party government financed the construction of a portion of the fencing in order to contain the cattle.
