Residents in Staplenton community recieve first batch of 'Smart Bins'

The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis along with the Solid Waste Management Corporation (SWMC) has delivered on its promise of distributing smart bins to every household in St. Kitts. It did so on Monday, March 16, 2020, by providing the first batch of the dustbins to the residents in Stapleton Extension, St. Peters.

The Honourable Eugene Hamilton, Minister responsible for SWMC, has said that this initiative would be benefiting everyone on the island.

Minister Hamilton said that each household would receive a 65-gallon bin to be able to put their garbage in and secure the garbage before it is collected by the trucks.

He added that the bins have smart technology that is capable of identifying exactly where and to who do they belong.

He also said that this approach is a part of the overall scheme of improving communities on the island.

He noted that the St. Peters community is one of the fastest-growing communities in St. Kitts. It has had a lot of development over the last five years.

The minister further stated that the Government takes pride in itself on improving the lives of the people of St Kitts and Nevis.

Minister Hamilton said that it should be understood that the Team Unity Government’s approach has been and will continue to be one which includes the entire country in what the Government is doing.

He also added that the Team Unity Government does the greatest good for the greatest number of people.

Also, this is precisely what the Government has been charged to do and that the Government is living up to that motto.

Doing what brings the greatest good for the greatest number of people is a practical principle which the Government has adopted.

It is not new for the Government to ensure that the communities are kept clean. In 2019 as well, a cleanup campaign had been initiated, and it included placing bins in the communities to encourage residents to participate in the campaign actively.
