Belize: A police constable was shot on the Roaring Creek bridge in Belize, resulting in his death. According to the reports, the 29-year-old PC Dylan Anthony, a resident of Camalote, was off duty and on a motorcycle when he was shot around 9 pm on Saturday night. The shooter was also on a motorcycle, according to reports. Preliminary investigations suggest it could be a case of mistaken identity in retaliation for a shooting in the village on Friday night.

It is being said that around 8:45 pm, the police constable was gunned down as he headed home on the Roaring Creek Bridge.

Anthony was targeted by a lone gunman and was shot multiple times, causing him to lose control of his motorbike and collapsing on the road, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Dennis Gonzalez, his common-law wife, says she was alerted within minutes of the incident but could not believe Anthony was killed.

The Belize Police Department has initiated a thorough investigation into the incident that claimed life of one of the department’s person. Anthony served in the department for the past nine years and was stationed in the City of Belmopan.

The untimely death of the cop has sent shockwaves across the country and left the police searching for the criminal.

In an official statement, the police association stated, “The circumstances surrounding his death are still unclear. However, the executive expresses its dissatisfaction and indignation at such a violent and cowardly act against one of its members. The executive demands swift action against those responsible.”

They also addressed the criminal and noted that any act of violence against any agent of the state will not be condoned in any circumstance and the authorities are working hard to catch the criminal and serve justice to the constable.

In addition to this, the residents and citizens of Belize are also expressing their deepest condolences to the cop’s family and friends and are remembering him as a ‘kind soul’.

“I can say this man was a very helpful, humble, and kind individual while executing his duties as a policeman. He was one of the few. I’m sorry for your loss, sir, wife and child and loved ones of the deceased. May God comfort your hearts during these difficult times. May His soul rest in eternal peace,” wrote a user named Quiroz Rocio.

Another user said, “This is the kind, calm and well-liked Dylan Anthony, Police Officer from Camalote, that was mercilessly gunned down in a case of mistaken identity by senseless warring factions.”
