Hurricane Elsa: No casualties of life reports yet in Barbados

According to initial information, the tropical storm Elsa who turned in the first category of Hurricane, has destroyed nearly 177 rooftops and crushed 7 houses, resulting in the blockage of highways and felled trees in Barbados. However, no fatalities of life have been reported yet.

Barbados: According to initial information, the tropical storm Elsa who turned in the first category of Hurricane, has destroyed nearly 177 rooftops and crushed 7 houses, resulting in the blockage of highways and felled trees in Barbados. However, no fatalities of life have been reported yet. Barbados Prime Minister, Mia Amor Mottley said, "Let us give thanks, we have no proof of any death of life, and that is the most significant news that we have heard today. She further continued that there has clearly been notable damage across the island over the course of the last few hours; also, it is too quick for the Barbados government to give a full picture of the damage. “There are numerous major highways that have fallen trees, at least 17 fallen trees blocking roads,” PM Mottley noted. Elsa unleashed its fierceness of wailing winds at the speed of 82 miles per hour in southern Barbados, followed by torrential rains and thunderstorms. Prime minister Mottley stated that complete estimates would be conducted on Saturday, and after that, she would address the nation. She emphasised that the predominant focus is to keep people safe. The prime minister further requested those whose houses had been damaged not to remain exposed to the parts & immediately seek refuge in shelters currently open. Following the statement, PM Mottley encouraged the citizens that the government would take care of them. She then pointed out that the Barbados Defence Force – BDF would give food to the shelters tonight, including the Schools Meals Department would later get over. Electricity was gradually restored over the city, parts of Christ Church and St George, with crews from the Barbados Light also Power still conducting assessments on Friday. “We have witnessed a hurricane that may well have been the worst since 1955 with Hurricane Janet. Assume this nation has met all three things(volcanic eruptions, coronavirus & hurricanes) in the last few months. In such case, the resilience of the Barbadian people is what, more than anything else, supports me tonight also has given me the confidence to know that we shall get past this moment,” PM Mia Mottley concluded.
