A Guyanese man who raped a four-year-old has now moved to the Guyana Court of Appeal to overrule his 20-year-long sentence. Man identified as Gregory Ramkissoon, 65, was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2016.
Ramkissoon, also known as "Skeage," admitted to having sexual contact with a four-year-old child on January 4, 2016, in Demerara County. Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall, who presided over the case at the time, sentenced the 65-year-old to 20 years in prison.
In light of this, he filed an appeal, claiming that the judge failed to consider the potential of a probation report and other pertinent facts.Aside from that, he claimed that his first attorney failed to properly minimise his punishment. He then claimed that the judge erred in law by failing to assess whether he would benefit from an improved version of the autrefois convict plea or whether she may use her discretion to postpone the proceedings or impose a less harsh sentence.
After serving a minimum of 15 years in prison, Ramkissoon will be eligible for release. According to the court, Ramkissoon had also forced the youngster to perform oral sex on him.
