Two day fitness competition held in Guyana with participation of Guyana Police Force
A two-day fitness competition was held in Guyana with participation from 20 teams, including three from the Guyana Police Force. The 3 1 Special Force Squadron copped top honours again as teams fiercely competed for the Champion trophy in the second Quarterly Fitness Competition. The event is on Friday morning at Base Camp Stephenson, Timehri.  The Ensigns of the Standard Officer Course 53 placed second, and Coast  Guard came in third. One of the three females teams, the Guyana National Reserve won the first place prize, the Guyana Police Force team placed second, and Base Camp Stephenson third in the competition, which included manoeuvring several obstacles in an assault course, a six-mile run, and tests of their marksmanship capabilities, among others. Chief-of-Staff (AG) Colonel Omar Khan commended the participants for their performance and urged that every competition provides the opportunity for them to be better each time. Also present was Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Ravindradat Budhram. Chief of Staff Khan emphasized that training is an important part of the military and so soldiers train every day so that they remain ready. "We train every single day. We have to do it. Training is an essential part of your competitiveness. You do this, and you have to be better every time you compete. You are doing it as part of the profession, and when you get better, this nation will be proud of you," he urged. Col Khan also used the opportunity to remind ranks that they are ambassadors of the Force and urged that each soldier carry himself with a type of image that is attractive. Lauding the officials, he called them an advertisement for the forces which are an ambassador, and it starts with how you look.  "Image is a very important part of our posture as professionals. When you are finished with your SOC (Standard Officer Course) or your BRC (Basic Recruit Course), and you return to your communities, people observe a difference in you, and that is what differentiates us from the rest of society; how you look, move and speak as a military rank is also important, and I want you to take this into consideration as you move on in your professional career," said Khan. Besides this, Col Khan also encouraged better performance in the next quarter's competition.
