Dominica: PM Skerrit meets Chinese Ambassador Lin Xianjiang
Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit met China's Ambassador to Dominica, Lin Xianjiang, on Monday. They discussed several projects of concern, including the status update on six schools that China is funding in Dominica.  He said the discussions included a thorough update on the Dominica China Friendship Hospital, which is nearing completion and the ongoing activities at Portsmouth's One Mile Agricultural Station. Prime Minister thanked the Ambassador for China's commitment to construct six schools islandwide.  "I also received a status update on the planned construction of six China-funded schools in Dominica. China has committed to the construction of the Goodwill Secondary School and the Thibaud, Tete Morne, Calibishie, Bellevue Chopin and Sineku Primary Schools," Besides this, he also reassured Ambassador Lin of Dominica's commitment to friendly relations with the People's Republic of China and expressed gratitude for the support of many of the development initiatives over the years. The people's Republic of China has been a great friend to the Commonwealth of Dominica. China helped Dominica in the health sector and overall infrastructure.  The Dominica-China Friendship Hospital, which was opened in 2019, is a symbol of friendship between the two countries. It is a state of the art medical facility with modern amenities, including a dialysis unit, trauma centre, eye department, advanced operation theatre and many more facilities.  During the peak days of the COVID-19 pandemic, besides having challenges of its own, China helped Dominica with face masks, PPE kits, and Sinopharm vaccines.  Melissa Skerrit: Wife of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, was the first person to receive a shot of the Sinopharm vaccine in Dominica. Many Dominican students are studying in China on scholarships; besides this, it is also helping the island country in various other developmental projects.
