The government of Dominica on Tuesday released new COVID-19 related statistics. As per the latest data, 190 people were discharged from hospitals and isolation facilities as of Monday. The patients had tested negative in recent testings.

Now, there are 576 active cases of COVID-19 in Dominica, the government data reported.

The Ministry of Health, Wellness and New Health Investment also reported 115 new coronavirus cases, out of which two were detected through RT-PCR testing and 113 through Antigen COVID-19 testing. The virus-related deaths also rose to 8.

The authorities noted that 2050 people successfully recovered from coronavirus. Since 2020, the country recorded only 2634 new cases of COVID-19 while over 61,852 people were tested. As per data, 25,640 were testing via PCR testing and 36,212 through Antigen.

The COVID-19 vaccine is also being administered islandwide at all primary health centres. The government noted that 23,163 people received their first dose of vaccine, while 20,571 are now fully immunized against the COVID-19.

The pace of COVID-19 testing has also increased; the government has turned the Windsor Park Sports Stadium into a drive-thru testing site while testing is being conducted islandwide.

Dominica recently received 30,000 rapid antigen testing kits from the People's Republic of China.

The COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Dominica. On Sunday, Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit asked for "collective actions" in the country's fight against COVID-19. He encouraged people to get tested or vaccinated.

Prime Minister said with simple things; COVID-19 can be prevented. He asked the public to wear a face mask in public places, exercise social distancing, and follow the health ministry guidelines.

The COVID-19 cases in Dominica increased in late July 2021, when several people gathered at a LOT event in Pottersville on 25th July. The majority of attendees were tested, and more than 45 had tested positive; following that, the contact tracing was carried out, and many more had turned positive for COVID-19.
