Antigua and Barbuda: The runway of the V.C. Bird International Airport in Antigua had to undergo emergency repairs following an incident which took place on Sunday. According to the reports, a portion of the airport's runway was displaced by the exhaust from a departing flight.  It was reported that the incident caused significant damage to the runway due to which the airport had to be closed yesterday morning, causing various disruptions. The reports further added that the airport was still operations but it did wasn't using the damaged portion which is usually utilised for taxiing and take-off only.  As soon as this incident took place, emergency and maintenance vehicles including heavy duty equipment were deployed for repairs and assessment. The V.C. Bird International Airport's authorities took immediate action to repair the runway and return the operations to normal.  The officials took to Facebook following the repair work to inform the general public about the development. It said, "Flight operations at the V.C. Bird International have fully returned to normal following an incident on the Runway late Sunday afternoon where a portion of the runway was displaced by the exhaust from a departing flight." The speedy and professional action of a joint response team made up of Airport Authority maintenance and the Ministry of Works ensured that disruption to regular traffic was kept at the absolute minimum.  The officials expressed its gratitude to everyone to took immediate action in repairing the runway and return the airport back to normalcy. "Hats off to all who went above and beyond to ensure that our airport operations were not unduly affected by the disruption," stated the authorities.   Meanwhile, the citizens and residents also took to Facebook to urge the government to fix all the major issues at the international airport.  "Pilots have been complaining about the runway for a while now, and instead, the government found the runway they fix car track," wrote a user, while another said, "Very thankful that this serious issue was seen and raised virtually immediately. The consequences of another outgoing aeroplane don't bear thinking about."
