St Vincent: 24-year-old sexually assaults minor, charged to 8 years of jail

St Vincent: A law officials in St Vincent and the Grenadines have sentenced a man aged 24 to eight years of imprisonment after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 10 year old five years ago.
According to the information, Justice Rickie Burnett, a judge in the High Court imposed the sentence on the culprit, Stefan Glasgow, after the jury found him guilty on December 4, 2023 of the charges.
The court said that he was found to have engaged in unlawful sexual intercourse with the child who was under the age of 13. The act was committed between December 31, 2018 and December 18, 2019.
The judge also said that the complainant claimed that she underwent physical pain during the experience and said that following the incident she started having nightmares all the time and lost weight significantly due to a major change in her eating habits.
The High Court judge added that she was crying without water and that came out in the evidence, showcasing the huge impact which she is suffering after the incident.
Meanwhile, the mother of the victim said that she has lost her child following the incident and is trying to find her. She added that her daughter has put up a mental block which the mother cannot get through it.
She also added that she missed the girl’s bubbly personality and remembers the times when she was happy as now the victim has not interest in socializing with friends.
During the court judgement, Justice Burnett stated that children and young people are likely to suffer a range of psychological and behavioural problems after they experience sexual assault. He also added that they can range from mild to serious and can present challenges in the short and long term.
The suspect will now be suffering eight years of imprisonment because of the brutal act he committed with the child at that time.
