St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Timothy Harris has congratulated Mark Brantley on his party’s election win in Nevis yesterday.

The Premier-elect’s Concern Citizens Movement party won four of the five districts up for grabs, retaining all of their seats from the 2013 election.

The opposition Nevis Reformation Party won just one seat, with their leader Joseph Parry keeping district five.

After speaking to Brantley on the phone, Harris said in a letter that on behalf of the federal government and the people of St Kitts and Nevis he extends his “heartiest congratulations and warmest wishes” to the new premier.

“I am very happy for you, as you prepare to assume the mantle from our dear friend and mentor, the Honourable Vance Amory, who provided the CCM and the island of Nevis with strong, principled leadership for more than two decades, helping to develop the next generation of nation-builders.”

Harris said that he and Brantley had “developed a close working relationship” since the pair tabled a motion of no confidence in the country’s government, which led to the 2015 general election.

“That difficult time in this nation’s political life was a challenging, collaborative and transformative experience that created a special bond between us, which has carried into our Team Unity administration.”
