St Kitts and Nevis poised & set to take off sector: Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture.
St Kitts and Nevis: Ministry of Agriculture of St Kitts and Nevis stated that the agriculture sector would poise for further growth and strengthening. The innovations were at the core of the Ministry’s development and reform agenda.

The announcement was made by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Ron Dublin Collins, during the Annual Review Planning Meeting at the St Kitts Marriott Resort on February 22, Tuesday. The meeting was conducted under the theme, “Innovation and Sustainability: A New Strategy for Agriculture in St Kitts and Nevis.”

Secretary Collins asserted that in St Kitts and Nevis, the “agricultural sector is set and poised to take off.” The situation has been cleared, and the authorities have buckled in for a flight, which would cross hills and mountains, valleys and plains. In flights, the ideas will be exchanged, and the new opportunities will be discussed for the development in the sector.

According to the Permanent Secretary, the government has been working to improve the sector, and it would ensure that more innovative ideas are introduced for the enhancement of the sector.

Permanent Secretary further recalled the success of the sector in the year 2020 and notified that the nation recorded a hike in the growth and development in agricultural production. He further stressed that the sector would witness more growth and development in 2022.

Collins was quoted saying, “The ministry has been trying to expand the basket of agricultural products and promote market access and value-added products.”

The Ministry of Agriculture has been looking through the clouds, looking ahead, and working to enhance the agricultural sector's resilience, sustainability, and productivity. This year, the agricultural Ministry would grab every possible opportunity to build resilience in the face of a range of challenges which will provide a boost in the transformation in the food and agriculture sector.

“The Ministry of Agriculture has worked tenaciously to reshape the sector after the global pandemic COVID-19," mentioned Collins.

He further stated that the Annual Review Planning Meeting holds an extremely important place in engaging the stakeholders in understanding. He added that the present toolkit must be re-examined to ensure the effectiveness and policy measures being followed by the Ministry. This process would also provide assistance in adopting new measures.
