SKNLP allege PM’s ‘goons’ disrupted Nevis vote

Reports are unverified and government has not commented

People queue to vote in Nevis.

The main opposition party in St Kitts and Nevis has alleged that the prime minister’s own party sent “goons” to cause trouble as Nevis went to the polls today.

In a statement posted on Facebook this afternoon, the St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party said that “strong Kittitian followers of Prime Minister [Timothy] Harris” were spotted on the island.

The People’s Labour Party supporters were accused of being there to “inhibit NRP [Nevis Reformation Party] voters from voting”.

WIC News has seen no evidence of this, and is unable to independently verify their claims. The government is yet to respond.

Nevisians have today been voting across five districts to elect representatives to the Nevis Island Assembly.

Polling stations closed at 6pm.

Mark Brantley, leader of the Concerned Citizens Movement – who are hoping to be returned to power – noted earlier that Electoral Office changes in polling stations had caused “early frustrations” to voters.

“Please be patient as we ensure that ALL get the chance to make their mark,” he wrote on Facebook.
