Trinidad and Tobago: A one-month-old male infant has died in mysterious conditions after he was brought to the Port of Spain General Hospital on Thursday with bruises on his chest.

According to the information, the police officers have ordered an autopsy to confirm the cause of death of the 1-month-old Jerel Bains of Beetham Gardens.

It was reported that around 7:05 pm on Thursday, a doctor from the hospital went to the Belmont police station to report that around 10:21 am earlier that day, a couple brought their infant to the NICU in an unresponsive condition.

The doctors made several attempts to save him, but the child died while receiving treatment. They also disclosed that there were many bruises to the baby’s chest area, and because of that, a post-mortem was ordered to determine the actual reason for death.

The police officials are expected to interview the couple once the autopsy report arrives because the medical authorities are not yet sure what led to the death of the infant.

Meanwhile, the medical officers also said that the last baby that was reported dead after being taken to a hospital unresponsive and with bruises about her body was a two-month-old baby girl of penal, Amy Rihanna Doodnath. Doodnath died at the Siparia Health Facility after she was brought in unresponsive with head injuries on Tuesday 5th march, 2024.

Baby Amy reportedly had a 2cm laceration to the top of the head, a 6cm x 6cm hematoma bump on the back left side of the head, and a 5cm x 5cm hematoma bump to the right back side of the head as well as bruises around the eyes filled with blood under the skin.

Investigations into both these incidents are still going on, with the police authorities and medical officers determined to find the real culprits behind the deaths of these babies.
