Hundreds Protest in Cape Haitian ahead of Moise funeral

Haiti: The Caribbean country Haiti is presently facing a violent demonstration in Cap-Haitien. The protest turned violent on Thursday while gunshots reverberated as the supporters of assassinated President Jovenel Moïse obstructed the roads & demanded justice while warning to disrupt his upcoming funeral.

Notably, A massively armed police convoy rushed via a barricade of burning tires set up at the end of the bridge, with one vehicle approximately flipping over as it passed through.

On the violent demonstration, one of the residents named David Daniel asserted that “This is really messed up since Jovenel died; I do not think the unrest would have the effect demonstrators intend. Violence has been here in Haiti for I was a kid, so I don’t think violence is going to change anything.”

The citizens who are protesting to get justice for their former President Jovenel Moise are wearing white T-shirts embellished with Moïse’s picture.

As per the local media house, the cathedral in the northern coastal city of Cap-Haitien was around half-full, and supporters of late President Jovenel Moise kept intervening as they cried out and accused Haiti’s aristocracy of killing the president.

A man identified as John Jovie stood outside the church with a crowd of men and threatened more violence if the officials of the elite from the capital of Port-au-Prince would be presented at the ceremonies.

Following the statement, he added, “We ask them not to come to the funeral, and if they come, we would cut their heads off. We would bring our guns out of hiding. We want justice for our President Moise.”

As the violence emerged, the mayor of Cap-Haitien appeared at the cathedral with heavy security as men with high-powered weapons.

The police chief of Haiti – Léon Charles, informed that so far a total of 26 suspects have been arrested, including 3 police officers and 18 former Colombian soldiers. Another seven high-ranking police officials have also been detained (but not formally arrested) as authorities investigate why no one from the president’s security force was injured that night.
