Grenada announces Tokyo Olympics squad

As the world's largest sports event is to start, Grenada Olympic House has announced the official Olympic team, representing the Caribbean country at Tokyo 2020.

Grenada: As the world's largest sports event is to start, Grenada Olympic House has announced the official Olympic team, representing the Caribbean country at Tokyo 2020.  Four athletes from the Grenada Athletics Association have qualified for the “Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games” while two swimmers representing the Grenada Amateur Swimming Association have received universality places (wild cards) for the games in Japan.   Following athletes will participates in the upcoming Tokyo event : 
  • Kirani James- 400M men 
  • Meleni Rodney – 400M women  
  • Anderson Peters- Javelin 
  • Lindon Victor- Decathlon 
Swimming 
  • Kimberly Ince-100M backstroke (women) 
  • Delron Felix- 100M Free Style (men)   
Apart from it, Five coaches, one physiotherapist and two team officials will accompany the six athletes.   The coaches are Paul Phillip (Throw), Harvey Glance (Track and Field), Valencia Nathaly Sihera (Swimming), Joshua L Priester (Decathlon) and Thomas E Fitzsimon (Pole vault).   The physiotherapist is Dr Earnest Ferrel.   The team officials are Team Leader and CLO, Ralph James and Chef de Mission Dr Caroline Jane Noel.   The opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics will be held on July 23.   The closing ceremony for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games are scheduled for August 8.   Notably, The Japanese government plans to impose a virus state of emergency in Tokyo during the Olympics, reports said Wednesday, in a decision that could impact allowing spectators into venues. The emergency measures -- less strict than a blanket lockdown -- will be in force until August 22, several Japanese media outlets reported, following a rise in cases less than three weeks before the Games begin. Citizens of Grenada have a lot of hope that their country will definitely secure some medal in this Olympics.  Mark, a resident of Grenada, talking to WIC News, said, " We all are praying for our players; not only Grenada but the Caribbean also have many hopes to wins a medal in Tokyo. "
