Former Dominica senator to get official funeral tomorrow

The government in Dominica has declared tomorrow a day of mourning following the death of Barnard Agar Carbon.

Flags will be flown at half mast in honour of Carbon, who has been afforded an official funeral at Wesley Catholic Church.

The former senator, who served in parliament between 1985 and 1990, was a member of the Dominica Freedom Party.

His leader at the time was Dame Mary Eugenia Charles, who appointed Carbon as permanent secretary in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism in 1985.

Educator

Charles Savarin, President of Dominica, and his wife are expected to attend the funeral, along with Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and other members of cabinet, members of the House of Assembly, and other government officials.

Bernard Carbon was born in Woodfordhill on 17 February 1931.

He attended the Dominica Grammar School and started his teaching career at the Wesley Primary School.

He studied at the Leeward Islands Teachers Training Institute and returned to work as the principal of Penville and Bense primary schools.

After studying in the United Kingdom, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in education for rural areas, he returned to Dominica and served as a principal of the Vieille Case, Wills Strathmore Stevens and Calibishie primary schools.
