World Environment Day, also known as WED, is annually celebrated on June 5, 2022, across the globe. The objective behind the celebration of the day is to encourage awareness and action for the protection of the environment.

The day was held in 1973 for the first time; it is regarded as a platform for raising awareness on issues about the environment, such as marine pollution, global warming (sustainable development), overpopulation and wildlife crime. World Environment Day is a worldwide platform for public outreach, with over 143 countries annually participating. Every year, the program provides a theme and forum for businesses, non-government organisations, communities, governments and celebrities to advocate environmental causes.

In 2022 World Environment Day campaign was based on #OnlyOneEarth, which called for collective, transformative action on a global scale to protect, restore and celebrate our planet.
