Three prisoners from Grenada escaped from police custody and hijacked a catamaran yacht ‘Simplicity’ on February 18. According to reports, the escapees were caught on Wednesday in St Vincent, but the yacht owners are suspected to be killed by them.
The police officials reported that the escapees named Ron Mitchell, aged 30, Trevon Robertson, aged 25 and Atiba Stanislaus, aged 23 are now being investigated. While explaining the incident, the St Vincent police said that the three men travelled to the island on the yacht which was docked in Grenada. The yacht had two occupants who are now believed to be dead as they are nowhere to be found. It was also reported that on Wednesday, the police of St Vincent apprehended the Grenadian escapees during an operation. Two additional Grenadian nationals were also caught during this operation.
Later, the yacht named Simplicity was found in Walliabou with bloodstains on the vessel’s interior, which made the police suspicious of the killing. The blood stains have been recorded by the forensics who will now determine whether it belongs to any of three of prisoners or not.The officials also reported that the two sailors have been missing from the SV Simplicity since February 19 and the police suspect that they have met with foul play somewhere between Grenada and St Vincent.
According to the date provided by the AIS, the yacht left Grenada around 10 pm on Sunday from Grand Anse Beach and the vessel’s speed was higher than the usual as the sailors are known for going slow.It is also being suspected that the occupants of the yachts were the citizens of America and the police has launched an investigation into the incident to find their whereabouts.
The information also added that the three male escapees were in police detention in Grenada on charges of robbery with violence, rape and other major crimes.
