NHC tracks tropical storm AL92 as it nears Lesser Antilles

Florida: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is tracking two developing tropical waves in the Atlantic that could evolve into intense rainfall and strong winds to the Lesser Antilles region.

The intelligence comes from the Tropical Weather Outlook advisory issued by NHC at 2:00 AM EDT Friday, August 14, 2026, spanning over the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of America.
The major phenomenon being traced is AL92, a tropical wave positioned about 650 miles east of the Lesser Antilles. The rainfall ṣand thunderstorm activity connected to the system is indicating its better formation over the time, NHC stated.

As reported by the advisory, AL92 will potentially become a short-lived tropical depression within the next 24-48 hours, as it is moving westward over the tropical Atlantic region. The disturbance is expected to progress westward by late Friday, carrying strong upper-level winds and dry air. These circumstances are likely to end its chances to advance further.

There is 30 percent chance of AL92 forming into a tropical cyclone within 48 hours and 30 percent chance within the seven days. However, these figures only refer to the probability for the system developing, not the chance of a hurricane  striking a specific Caribbean country.

The advisory informs there are chances of strong wind and heavy rain impacting some areas

Friday night and Saturday, despite AL92 developing into a tropical cyclone or not.

The NHC is also tracking AL94, a distinct tropical wave currently based a few hundred miles south-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. The weather system is triggering unorganised showers and thunderstorms. The current situation is intended to support steady development and could transform into a tropical disturbance later during the week as it’s moving westward or west-northwestward.

The NHC report indicates that Al94 has around a 30 percent chance of emerging within 48 hours and a 50 percent chance within the next seven days. The outlook also informed the Tropical Disturbance of Cristobal, found about 600 miles west of the Azores, which had recently weakened from a tropical storm.

Meteorologists will continue tracking all the three disturbances with specific concentration on AL92 due to its possible weather impact on the Lesser Antilles.
