Jonel Powell to address 41st annual UNESCO General Conference in Paris today

Minister Jonel Powell will be addressing the General Conference and delegates of 192 countries on Wednesday, 10th November 2021.

Jonel Powell- St Kitts and Nevis Minister of Education with responsibility for UNESCO voted on behalf of the country for the election of new Director-General of the organization.

Powell pitched his vote during the 41st annual UNESCO General Conference in Paris on Tuesday. He will also be addressing the General Conference and delegates of 192 countries on Wednesday, 10th November 2021.

"UNESCO continues to provide financial and technical support to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis through current projects like the establishment of the National Sports Council, the professionalizing of the teaching force and establishment of a National Teaching Council, Youth, Sport and Cultural Policies to name a few and so much more," said Powell. He also had the chance to meet UNESCO Chief Audrey Azoulay. Powell said, "I was very fortunate to be able to spend a brief moment with the newly reelected UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay to discuss the importance of the organization and the benefits for small island developing states (SIDS) like St Kitts and Nevis,"

UNESCO on Tuesday called for the ballot to elect its new Director-General, Audrey Azoulay, who was re-elected to the post with massive support. She received around 159 votes out of 169 total ballots cast.

Azoulay's is now facing a massive challenge to woo back Israel and the US into the organization.
