Considering the forecasted extremities of the Hurricane Season in the Caribbean this year, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the US Air Force Reserve are all set to host the Caribbean Hurricane Awareness Tour from the 16th of April 2024.
The Caribbean Hurricane Awareness Tour will necessarily be a series of events hosted in collaboration with NOAA and the US Air Force Reserve to prepare the Caribbean countries to face the hostile conditions during the natural calamities. The officials from the NHC, i.e. the National Hurricane Centre are expected to visit the communities which are most vulnerable to the destructions of the hurricanes to discuss precautionary measures, and resilience and teach them the know-how of safety measures during the storm.NAOO and the US Air Force are planning the tours of Air Force Reserve Command’s WC-130J aircraft “Hurricane Hunter” to showcase how the aircraft helps in collecting data about hurricanes. Typically, the aircraft flies into the core of the storm to collect crucial information about the hurricane’s specifications.
The aircraft collects all the data to facilitate the forecasting of hurricane’s forecasting and landfall, i.e. when the eye of the hurricane moves from the water to the land and typically moves along the coastline.NOAA reported that this collected data is sent to the NHC to establish forecasts regarding the climate via a satellite.
The director of NHC, the chief of Hurricane Specialist Unit Branch, a meteorologist from NHC as well as from NOAA’s Weather Prediction Centre, US Air Force reservists who are readily available and well trained to tackle any sudden issue, G-IV pilot from the Aircraft Operations Centre of NOAA are all going to attend this awareness tour and raise awareness among masses, as informed by the NOAA announcement on its official website.
Such awareness raising events are of even greater significance this year as 20-25 named hurricanes are expected in the Caribbean region with chances of extension in the overall length of hurricane season. It is best advised for citizens and the public to be fully prepared.
