Grenada: Divonie Joseph to face South Africa in ICC Men U19 World Cup

Divonie Joseph- A Grenadian and Windward Islands U19 Cricketer is set to participate in the South Africa ICC Men's Under 19 Cricket World Cup.

Grenadian Cricketer Divonie Joseph will compete against South Africa in the ICC Men's Under 19 Cricket World Cup. The match between the West Indies and South Africa will kick off on January 19, 2024.

The cricketer left Grenada on Monday (January 8) to meet his teammates on the Windward Islands U19 team and other U19 cricketers from the West Indies in South Africa. Joseph is one of three players from the Windward Islands selected for the 15th edition of the tournament, which will be held from January 19 to February 11 2024.

The young wicket Keeper/Batsman recently participated in a tri-series tournament in Sri Lanka with the Windward Islands U19 Team to play against Sri Lanka. Throughout his short career as a cricketer, Divonie Joseph has gone through different stages, including notable performances and participation in the Windward Islands senior tournament last year.

Before leaving for South Africa, the Ministry of Sports organized a special meeting with Joseph and wished him luck for the match.

In an interview at the Government Information Service, Joseph shared his excitement at being selected for the tournament. He said over the last three years, he has been working to reach where he is today, being able to participate in such a prestigious tournament.

Divonie Joseph's Background

Divonie is from La Poterie, St Andrew and is a past student of Macdonald College. He is considered to have a rich cricket background with a family lineage of cricket lovers.

Joseph, who is also the nephew of former West Indies Open Batsman Devon Smith says that cricket "runs through his viens" and he started playing as a toddler.

He said for the past months, he has been working on his game and ensuring he is prepared for the conditions that may be ahead in South Africa with the help of his coaches.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Grenada has extended its warm wishes to Joseph to succeed in performing at the ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup Tournament.

Meanwhile, several users from Social media also extended their warmth and support to Joseph. They congratulated him and wished him and his team all the best for their Journey.

Minister Penny Beckles, The Parliamentary Representative and Minister of Planning and Development in Trinidad and Tobago also congratulated him. In the comment section she added, "Congratulations and best wishes"
