As per reports, the inmates at Maximum Security Prison in Arouca released the threat. Soon after the threats went on, the Prison Officer's Association held a media conference where General Secretary Lester Walcott confirmed that such menace was made by the inmates.
He said as per his knowledge, the inmates at Building number 13, also known as Wayne Jackson, called out the threats and said thirteen officers would be killed if they were not moved out of the building.Walcott said such criminals think they can have their ways by sending out threats to police officers, "Such persons think they are controlling the system to murder a prison officer to get their ways".
He said officers are not willing to work until certain security measures are put in place. Currently, around 100 police officers are deployed in the Wayne Jackson Building, which mainly houses criminal elements associated with dangerous Islamic gangs.
Lester Walcott also asked Prime Minister Keith Rowley to come forward and intervene in the matter. He also called a special meeting with the Prime Minister and expected him to be empathetic towards their problems.
Furthermore, he stated they lost all confidence in Minister of National Security Fitzgerald Hinds.
