Plans for ‘smart hospital’ in Dominica finalised

Marigot facility planned to be climate resilient

Wednesday, 13th December 2017

Plans have been finalised and government is looking to advance the construction of a climate resilient, smart hospital in Marigot, the prime minister of Dominica has announced.

Speaking at a press briefing last week, Roosevelt Sekrrit said the government of Mexico has committed to funding the new facility.

“We have finalised on our end all of the documents to submit to the government of Mexico and we are very grateful to them for their continued commitment,” he said.

“And so we look forward to advancing the construction of this hospital that is needed even more now than prior to Hurricane Maria.”

The intention is for the hospital to have a water and power system that doesn’t rely on the national system, allowing it to be better place if Dominica is struck by another natural disaster.

It is unclear how much money Dominica is due to receive from a US$27 million pledge by Mexico at a donor conference last month.
