Melissa Skerrit gets the second dose of Sinopharm vaccine

Roseau,Dominica: Melissa Poponne Skerrit received the second dose of the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine with Senator Cassini Laville on Thursday.
Member of Parliament from Roseau Central, Melissa Skerrit, received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine on March 4, 2021. She was the first person to be inoculated using the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine in Dominica.
Minister of Digital Economy Senator Cassini Laville had also received the first dose of the Sinopharm vaccine on the same day.

On March 4, 2021 People's Republic of China donated 20,000 doses of its Sinopharm vaccine.
Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine is one of two COVID-19 vaccines developed by Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinopharm. The company claims its vaccine is 79% effective against the COVID-19 virus. However, no detailed efficiency data of Sinopharm's COVID-19 vaccine has been released in the public domain.
Dominica is running the largest vaccine drive in history on a per capita basis. The country has also received 28,800 doses of the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine from the COVAX facility on Tuesday evening.

The vaccination drive in the country is being run mainly by using the Astrazeneca coronavirus vaccine. Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, President Charles Savarin and other cabinet members have also received the vaccine with no severe side effects. They are also anticipated to receive the second doses in a few days.
As per the national epidemiologist of Dominica, Dr Shalauddin Ahmed, more than 18,000 people have successfully received their first dose of vaccine in the country. No person showed any allergic reaction to the doses.
It is eminent to vaccinate 70% of the population to achieve herd immunity. The pace with the immunization drives are undergoing in Dominica, the entire population of 70,000 would be protected against the virus anytime.
