The Royal Police of Antigua and Barbuda arrested three individuals for possession of cocaine.

The Royal Police of Antigua and Barbuda arrested three individuals for possession of cocaine. As per the press release by the police, around 2 kilos of cocaine was discovered from three men at the Jolly Harbour, St John's.

The discovery was made during a drug operation carried out by Narcotics Department. The substance was hidden inside the car, which is registered under the name of one of the accused.

"Three men are in police custody assisting with an ongoing investigation after they were found with 2 kilos of cocaine in their possession. On Monday 25th April, around 11:15 am, the at Jolly Harbour and found the illegal substance hidden inside a car owned by a 36yr old man of Buckley's," said the Royal Police.

Officials stated that, besides these three men, two more male suspects were also arrested and taken into custody. Additionally, The vehicle was seized and taken to Police Headquarters. The drug carries a street value of EC$62,000.

Antigua and Barbuda is a major transit point for cocaine. It is trafficked through water routes in small speedboats, yachts, fishing vessels and large freighters.

As seen in previous cases, such drug traffickers often deliver and offload their drug consignments, sometimes on beaches or even offshore. After offloading, drugs are loaded into smaller boats, from whereon drug shipments make their way to destination markets.
