Don't believe a word he says, said Guyanese woman before committing suicide

A 25-year-old young woman killed herself in Guyana due to domestic violence. The woman, before taking her life posted a long note on her Facebook, pleading other women to leave their partners if they are abusive towards them.

On November 7, 2021, 25-year-old Dian Mandokin, a mother of two, posted on her Facebook account, "Ladies if you are in a abusive relationship please leave quickly, Doesn't matter the things he tell you, just don't believe a word he says, because if your partner hits you one time, he is gonna to it again and will continue till your relationship lasts,".

She posted the Facebook status, just a few days before losing faith and taking her life. Mandokin was in an abusive relationship and frequently complained about being abused; unfortunately, she did not make it out alive.

Mandokin, was born in Moco Moco Village, in Region Nine, but later moved to Georgetown to live with her husband and their two kids. She was laid to rest on Thursday at her hometown.

Upon hearing the shocking news Lenox Shuman, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly and Presidential Candidate of the Liberty and Justice Party volunteered to transport the body of Mandokin back to her hometown in, Region 9.

As news of her death spreads, the Guyana Football Federation on Monday expressed its sadness at the loss of the former Lady Jags U17.

Mandokin played for the Guyana U17 Women’s National Team in 2011 and 2012, including a stint as captain during Concacaf Championship qualifying. A keen and talented sportswoman, she competed at national level for Region 9 in athletics, specialising in the 100m and 200m sprints.

She also represented Snatchers and Guyana

"We would also like to pay tribute to Dian and her inspiring contribution to football as a female player from a hinterland community. She was a talented, trailblazing leader on the pitch who represented Guyana at youth level with great pride and honour," said the Club.
