Watch High Riley, the secretary general of the Caribbean Tourism Organization, speak during the opening ceremony of the Climate Smart Sustainable Tourism Forum in St Kitts.
He said that a year ago the United Nations General Assembly declared 2017 the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, and that there have been "hard lessons" during the past 12 months.
"In the closing weeks of 2017, given all that we have encountered as a region and as a tourism industry, there is no better time than now to have a conference that is focused on climate change and sustainable development," he said.
Carlene Henry Morton, permanent secretary in St Kitts' Ministry of Tourism, said that she believes countries have to provide a product that can sustain effects of climate change.Latest
