A girl from Haiti named Woodnise, aka Tita, is going viral on social media for marrying a Sikh man. Tita was born in Haiti, following which her family shifted to the USA, and now she resides in Canada.
Her partner, Gurtej, fondly known as Tej, was born and raised in Punjab, India, and has made Canada his home.
The love story of the couple began four years ago in an Amazon warehouse, a place where destiny worked its magic and they both thank the owner of Amazon Jeff Bezos for it.While narrating her love story, Tita said that from the very first moment her eyes met with Tej, it felt as if the universe conspired to bring them together. She said that she felt a sudden connection, a spark that both of them hesitated to acknowledge.
As a Black woman, thoughts remained in her mind, wondering if love between them could ever be possible. It seemed like an impossible feat to be with an Indian man, and she was convinced he wouldn’t take it seriously.“Because Black and Indian couples are not very common,” outlined the Haitian girl.
Despite their initial awkwardness, Tita noticed Tej stealing glances at her whenever they were assigned to their work duties. His habit of rolling his eyes at her, which she found irksome; she hated him for that as it only fueled the growing tension between them.
One day, Tita gathered the courage to break the ice. She could not help but notice he was wearing Jordan shoes, a brand close to her heart. “Why wear those here? It’s so dusty,” she remarked. Tej, with his carefree demeanour, replied, “I’ve got plenty; they’re just shoes.” Tita then replied, “Okay!”
Tita continued that from that moment, their bond deepened and they began spending time during lunch breaks, often sharing food in her car.
Their friendship became so apparent that rumours started circulating in the Amazon warehouse that they were dating. Therefore, when their colleagues asked them if they were dating, they said yes, even though at that time they were just friends.
As their connection flourished, they went on their first official date to a mall, a place Tej had never been despite it being 45 km away from his home. It was during this outing that Tej confessed his love for Tita. For almost two years, they kept their love a secret, and during their third year of relationship, they decided to share their beautiful journey with family and friends. As the couple now constantly share their images and videos on their social media accounts, people appreciate them and say that it is completely normal to marry the love of your life despite cultural differences.

A user named Kimberly said, “My Dad is Punjabi and my Mum is Black. My parents faced many difficulties and some of my Dads family were not accepting of me unfortunately …to this day. I wish these two all the best and hope their Love remains strong.”
Another user named Samantha said, “Awww! They’re such a beautiful couple! I can relate to being guarded with my feelings. My husband is Latino, and I wondered if his parents, particularly my now MIL, would accept me. We all get along, though.”
