Tuesday, 20th June 2017

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is issuing advisories on Tropical Storm Bret, which was located about 80 miles west of Trinidad at 5am this morning.

The tropical storm warnings have been discontinued for Trinidad and Tobago, and Grenada.

A warning is still in effect for portions of Venezuela, from Pedernales to Cumana including Isla de Margarita.

A tropical storm watch is in place for Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao.

The latest report Dominica Meteorological Service (DMS) said that maximum sustained winds are near 40mph or (65kmph) with higher gusts extending outwards up to 125 miles (205km) from the centre.

Avoid beaches

Bret is moving towards the west northwest at around 21mph (33kmph).

“On the forecast track, the storm continues to move away from Trinidad and across the north eastern section of South America towards the ABC islands,” DMS said.

In Trinidad, members of the public are advised to avoid actives on the beach and along the coast until further notice.

“The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service is informing the public on the deterioration of sea conditions along coastlines of Trinidad and Tobago in 24 to 30 hours,” they said.
