Irish PM Leo Varadkar resigns, assumes caretaker role

Irish PM Leo Varadkar surrendered on Thursday, remaining on as interval pioneer while the nation's three major parties fight out stopped alliance talks after an uncertain political decision.

Varadkar "has tonight passed on to the president his renunciation from office," the administration said in an announcement. "As per the constitution, the (head administrator) and the legislature will keep on carrying on their obligations until successors have been delegated."
