The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, will visit St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) from May 18 to 21.

Indian President to rename a street, donate cricket kits during his visit to St Vincent

The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, will visit St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) from May 18 to 21. During his visit, he will meet with his counterpart, Governor-General Susan Dougan, as well as Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves and other dignitaries.

The Indian President will also speak to the SVG House of Assembly. President Kovind will be honoured with a banquet hosted by the Governor-General, as well as a working lunch and reception hosted by Prime Minister Gonsalves.

During his visit, President Kovind is expected to sign various agreements.

He'll be the keynote speaker at a ceremony in Calder renaming a street 'India Drive.' In the botanical garden, he will also plant a sandalwood sapling.

Kovind will visit numerous Indian development projects on the island and meet with the local Indian community. Under the auspices of the Cricket Association, the Indian President will also distribute cricket gear to ambitious young cricketers.

During hurricanes and flash floods, India has provided humanitarian aid to St Vincent and the Grenadines, it also received COVID-19 vaccinations from India.

Prime Minister Gonsalves travelled to India in 2019 at Prime Minister Modi's invitation, and the two leaders have met twice at the United Nations in New York.

The two countries collaborated extensively during SVG's stint on the United Nations Security Council in 2020 and 2021. The visit of India's President demonstrates the country's commitment to the Caribbean community.

The Indian Prime Minister is currently on his Caribbean tour. He is in Jamaica from where he will travel to St Vincent and the Grenadines on Wednesday.
