Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis has asked the people to follow the guidelines of government and health officials to end the threat of virus in the twin-island nation.
Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris addressed the inhabitants on national ZIZ Broadcasting on Saturday, where he discussed the progress of country on COVID-19 front. He stated so far there have been no new admissions of coronavirus patients in hospitals of the country.
"Today and tomorrow are twenty-four-hour lockdown days, we want people to follow them, and I case of urgent requirement to go somewhere they can get permission from the police commissioner ." added the Prime Minister.
The medical advice and professional advice suggests we must have all our borders closed for a while in future to stop the contamination of the virus. Besides this, he stated that opening the borders prematurely would put all the efforts to waste.
Prime Minister also applauded the frontline workers and even farmers and fishers from maintaining the food supply in the country.
Discussing the lockdown restrictions, Prime Minister stated," even in the regulations, we are giving relaxations, from Monday we are starting five days of recreations to many of the entities."
Furthermore, Prime Minister stated that St Kitts and Nevis was among the first batch of countries that restricted the entries of people from nations considered as hotspots of the virus.
He added that beaches must be used to conduct physical activities instead of large gatherings, "There should be absolutely no beach parties or picnics, these things are not unimportant but activities like these increases the transmission of virus which makes it hard to handle, because it takes only one person to transmit the virus." added the leader.
The leader stated that he believes that health and economy go hand in hand because healthy people are required to drive the economy and vice versa. As per him, the health sector of the country is much better than before.
The leader also stated that the country has more professionals hands than we had in demand; we have 34 professionals from abroad.
Besides this, the Prime Minister also wished Happy Mothers day to all mothers and grandmothers in the country. "One of the best gifts any child can give their mothers in the COVID-19 crisis is that lower any threats of coronavirus to their mothers, whatever we do, we must reduce any unnecessary physical contact."
