Trinidad: 1 dead, 1 injured following shooting incident in Belmont

According to the information, the deceased has been identified as Nigel Williams, also known as Speedy, while the injured victim has been identified as Akeil St Hillaire, aged 28. Both the victims are residents of Mc Kai Lands, Belmont.

Trinidad and Tobago: A man was murdered after being shot several times, while another got injured during an incident near a job site in Belmont on Saturday.

According to the information, the deceased has been identified as Nigel Williams, also known as Speedy, while the injured victim has been identified as Akeil St Hillaire, aged 28. Both the victims are residents of Mc Kai Lands, Belmont.

It was said that around 10:59 am, both the victims were standing with other people on a job site when a blue wagon approached them. Of it, four men, all armed with rifles, came out and began shooting at the group, eventually hitting the two about their bodies before escaping from the scene.

The police reported that Williams succumbed to his injuries at the scene while St Hilaire was rushed to the Port of Spain General Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.

Meanwhile, the officials were also notified following which the responding officers along with a District Medical officer visited the scene and declared Williams dead. The DMO ordered his body to be removed from the crime scene.

The scene was also investigated by crime scene investigators WPC Aleong and PC Cromwell who recovered 27 5.56mm shell casings, 19 shell casings and 2 fragments.

According to the information, this was the second murder that took place in the area for the month so far, and just on Sunday, May 12, the dead body of Jurell Lewis was discovered and shot to death along Walcott Lane in Gonzales.

The police officials have launched an investigation into the shooting incident which claimed the life of Williams.

The surge in shooting incidents in Trinidad and Tobago is becoming a cause of major concern, with the officials urging the general public to report any type of suspicious activity with them and always remain cautious of any type of criminal activity taking place around them.
