Jamaica: Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness met with the Nurses Association of Jamaica (NAJ) at Jamaica House on Wednesday, 21st July 2021.
Through his official social media, Prime Minister Holness said, "We spoke at length about some of the difficulties they face, and I assured them that the Government continues to work to improve the conditions in our health system. "
"I extended congratulations to the 2021 finalists in the “Nurse of the Year” competition," he added.
Prime Minister further noted that The medical field is one of great importance to this country, and I express my sincerest gratitude to all our healthcare professionals who serve tirelessly and selflessly and remain committed to the health & well-being of our people.
Notably, Health workers whole over the world played a prominent role in fighting against the deadly coronavirus.
Jamaica coronavirus status in last 24 hours :
Jamaica has confirmed 142 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours , with ages ranging from five months to 84 years, pushing the total to 51,828 with 3,481 being active.
In addition, the country's positivity rate stands at 13.6%.
Moreover, Jamaica has recorded five more COVID-19 deaths, pushing the tally to 1,173.
According to the Health Ministry of Jamaica, those who have died are :
* A 72-year-old man from St James
* A 51-year-old man from Kingston and St Andrew
* A 38-year-old male from St James
* An 83-year-old male from St Thomas
* A 68-year-old man from St Elizabeth
Additionally, With Prime Minister Andrew Holness sounding the alarm that it is but a matter of time before Jamaica confirms its first case of the Delta variant of the coronavirus disease 2019 coronavirus and warning that Jamaicans could see another raft of containment measures this week, figures from the Ministry of Health & Wellness, up to Friday, indicate that some essential workers are still not taking up the chance to be vaccinated.
