Dominica's Kavem Hodge makes first half-century in Test debut against Australia

Dominica's cricketer Kavem Hodge made his first half-century by scoring 71 runs to push West Indies to a decent position by the completion of day 1 in the second and final Test on Thursday. The player hit eight fours and one sixer throughout the match.

The star player also shared a significant partnership of 149 with Trinidadian Joshua Da Silva, who scored 79 runs. This is the highest partnership recorded to date against Australia in day-night tests.

Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, also congratulated Hodge for this achievement. He took to his social media and said, "Half-century for Dominica's Kavem Hodge! Congratulations." It was Hodge's Test debut against Australia.

It is being said that the West Indies team made a remarkable recovery during the match in Brisbane, closing on 266-8 after being reduced to 64-5 in the day/night contest.

The team is contributing this recovery to wicketkeeper Joshua Da Silva and Kavem Hodge, playing just his second Test, led the resurgence with a fighting sixth-wicket partnership of 149.

After the innings, Kavem Hodge shared his experience and said that he felt really good. "Obviously, I know it's just my second test match, but having played both innings in the first test, you know, it was really good to just get some retribution and spend some time at the wicket and help my team get to a decent total," said the Dominican cricketer.

About his partnership with Da Silva, he said that it was amazing and added that they have good chemistry, and he was happy for him.

While talking about the whole experience, Hodge noted that he is playing cricket against the best team in the world and added, "So it's a moment that I'm cherishing."

The player also said that he is just trying to soak up everything and stay in the moment, not take anything for granted, and just try and help the team as best as he can.

In addition to this, several citizens and residents of Dominica also congratulated the young cricket sensation and wished him luck in future endeavours through their social media accounts.
