Call to put respect above violence in Dominica
Raymond Lawrence wants 'doing good' to come first
Thursday, 13th July 2017
Raymond Lawrence was speaking at a press conference organised by the Cultural Division to launch activities for Emancipation Celebration 2017.
Lawrence stated that there should be alternatives to the fighting and related brushes with the law.
He said that he hoped there would be no more news of murders in the country, and that even one was too many.
The latest murder reported in Dominica was that of Glen Alphonse, 29. He was shot in Eggleston while travelling by bus.“Just because there are fighting and killing in other countries, it does not mean we have to have it here,” Lawrence is quoted as saying by Dominica News Online.
“So this morning, the Cultural Division is calling for an end to all violence in Dominica. We don’t want to hear about any more murders in this country, on murder is too many.
Respect and doing good in the community should come above violence, he added.
“Because really, violence does not build, it only destroys. It does not lead to anything good but only leads to more trouble, chaos, and heartache for victims and families. Let us say no to violence.”
