The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States has expressed "profound sadness" over recent tragic events in Dominica.
Five young men died on Sunday after the vehicle they were travelling in drove off the side of a cliff in Vieille Case. The area is represented in parliament by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, who said "my thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the deceased. We all share in the pain and suffering."
Didacus Jules, Director General of the OECS, echoed the prime minister's words.
He said that the thoughts and prayers of himself and all OECS staff were with the parents, siblings and loved ones of the boys and that he hoped families were able to draw strength from the knowledge that the whole of the OECS stood shoulder to shoulder with their families at this difficult time.
“I am mindful that no words or deeds offered can ever truly erase the pain of loss and we pray at this time that everyone affected by this tragedy may find comfort in the knowledge that these sons of Dominica rest in God's eternal peace" he added.
