6 sent for remand for brutally murdering a Hindu Priest in Guyana

The Guyana police have sent six accused for remand after over eleven were captured in association with the murder of a Hindu Priest. All six are due to be presented in court.

The Guyana police have taken remind of Vidaiand Khemraj, Devendria Khemraj, Gregory Tejpartab, Javed Ghanie, Ramzan Ally and Anil Angershallam.

Religious leader and Priest Rishi Barrat was beaten to death on 28 August 2021. The 60-year-old was popularly known as Haribol in his community. He was a father for four.

His wife, Jasmin Bharrat told that a group of boys were drunk and making noises around while her husband was trying to sleep a late evening. She said her husband told the men there were no liquor shops around and they must leave, but the drunk men started to abuse him.

As per Jasmin Bharrat, she also called the police, who assured to send the patrol teams, but as she went outside, she heard a big commotion and screaming of the drunk men stating, "beat him, kill him, hit him on the head,"

Mrs Bharrat said her husband was lying in a pool of blood, and they took him to the hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries.

She demanded justice and asked the police to take stricter action. Jasmin Bharrat stated that the men were very regular on the streets and often made a mess around, cursing her daughters, irritating and threatening to burn down their home. She said the men also used to theft from the Hindu temple that her husband took care of.

The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha also asked the police to take stricter actions and make the murderers pay for their crimes. The entire community expressed outrage at the occurrence.
