Havana, Cuba: Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, is currently on a three-day official trip to Cuba. He was received by Josefina Vidal Ferreiro, Cuban Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Upon his arrival in the country, Skerrit expressed the pleasure of being in Cuba and said it continues to help other nations, despite facing difficulties due to the blockade imposed by the United States.
During his visit, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit will also be meeting all the Dominican students studying in the neighboring country.
PM Roosevelt Skerrit will receive the Order of José Martí during a ceremony at the Palace of the Revolution (Palacio de la Revolución) in Havana. He will also participate in a ceremony to lay wreaths at the José Martí Memorial at the Plaza de la Revolución.
The Order of José Martí is named after the Cuban National Hero, a renowned poet, journalist and writer who became the symbol of Cuba's struggle for independence from Spain.
Josefina Vidal Ferreiro, Cuban Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, said, "Honored to receive today and give the warmest welcome, on behalf of the Cuban government, to the Honorable Roosevelt Prime Minister of #Dominica, a great friend of the Cuban people, who is paying an official 3-day visit to Cuba,".
The Republic of Cuba and the Commonwealth of Dominica established diplomatic relations on May 18, 1996. Currently, bilateral relations are developed in different areas, highlighting cooperation.
Dominica has always stood up in support of Cuba after the US imposed strict economic, financial, trade and other sanctions on the communist country.
