PM Roosevelt Skerrit meets French Ambassador to Dominica Jacques-Henry Heuls

Prime Minister of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit received a courtesy call from Ambassador of France to Dominica Jacques-Henry Heuls on Friday.

Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit received a courtesy call from Ambassador of France to Dominica Jacques-Henry Heuls on Friday. Both discussed several issues of concern.  PM Skerrit said that they both exchanged views on regional and international issues. Skerrit reassured Ambassador Heuls of Dominica’s commitment to maintaining good relations between our two countries. He also expressed thanks for France’s support of Dominica in areas of economy, education and culture. The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Business and Diaspora Relations, Barbara Dailey, was also in attendance. France & Dominica relations Dominica shares a longstanding relationship with Dominica; just two years after gaining independence in 1978, the countries signed their first bilateral agreement in 1980, ensuring mutual relations.  In 1987, Dominica and France signed a Maritime Delimitation Agreement, which delimited the maritime boundaries between Dominica and the French islands of Guadeloupe & Martinique. It was the first Maritime boundary agreement signed in the American and Caribbean region based on the Convention on the Law of the Sea.  The agreement was signed in Paris on 7 September 1987. The treaty established two boundaries separating Dominica from Guadeloupe from the north, and in the second boundary, it separated Dominica from Martinique to its south.
