Dominica recorded no cases of mother to child transmission of HIV and Syphilis in 4 years
Prime Minister of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit attended the validation ceremony of Elimination of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV and Syphilis at Jungle Bay Resort.

He showed his gratitude towards Carissa F. Etienne- Director of the Pan American Health Organization.
PM Skerrit also thanked UNICEF for co-chairing the EMTCT Secretariat with PAHO, UNAIDS, other UN partners and PANCAP for their continued advocacy and support.He stated that the milestone is achieved with the persistent and dedicated work of numerous public health nurses and other health professionals under Dr Irving McIntyre, Minister of Health, Wellness and New Health Investment."Health Care Workers' dedication and commitment have ensured that Dominica strives for a generation free of HIV and syphilis, and those same health care workers who, with determination, ensure the continuation of the essential services have also been at the front line of our COVID-19 response," stated Prime Minister Skerrit.PM Skerrit stated that he is proud that Dominica has joined the Caribbean countries that are leading the plan on the elimination of the Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV and syphilis in the region.Prime Minister stated that there have been no recorded cases of "Mother to child transmission of HIV and Syphilis" in Dominica over the past four years.Past four year achievements- 95% or more coverage of antenatal care and skilled attendance at birth.
- 95% or more coverage of HIV and Syphilis screening of pregnant women.
- 95% or more coverage of HIV and Syphilis treatment in pregnant women.
- No incidence of perinatal HIV (per 1,000 live births)
- No incidence of congenital syphilis (per 1,000 live births)
