The signing ceremony was held in New York by Ambassador Loreen Ruth Bannis-Roberts, Permanent Representative of the Commonwealth of Dominica and Ambassador Adela Raz, Permanent Representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations, in the representation of their respective governments.

The Joint Communiqué emphasises the significance of establishing bilateral cooperation between the states to implement the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and for trading practices and expertise on resilience. It additional underscored the motivation of both states to adhere to the global models set out in the United Nations Charter on developing friendly relations between the Member States.

During the signing ceremony, Ambassador Raz exulted over translating the powerful relations between both delegations in New York to a pledge that could benefit the growth and development of both nations. For her part, Ambassador Bannis-Roberts accorded Ambassador Raz’s points and marked her hope for expanding cooperation between Afghanistan and Dominica.

Dominica is among the top countries in the Caribbean, holding high-level talks with other nations expanding its cooperation with the global community. Visa-free access to half of the world is a testament of the enhanced relationship between Dominica and other countries that respected Dominica’s kind gesture.

Bilateral agreements between two countries increase trade between two countries. The overall development becomes more efficient with a joint effort of collective cooperation. The agreement between Dominica and Afghanistan stands as a demonstration of solidarity between each other in times of need.

Recently, Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit expressed his solidarity with India, which is now enduring severe effect of COVID19 second wave. PM said that “With a huge population and a significant strain on its medical system, it is a country in its darkest hours. As we all know, this pandemic has swept through many western countries which have suffered similar loss of lives.”
