Dominica: PM Skerrit discusses significance of Sports during Annou Pale

Prime Minister of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit interacted with Loreen Bannis Roberts - Special Envoy, Netball and Trevor Shillingford- Sports Coordinator during the recent episode of Annou Pale on Sunday.
During the conversation, Loreen Bannis Roberts highlighted the significance of sports in the country. She also applauded the parliament representative from Roseau Central constituency Melissa Skerrit for the Netball Courts at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium.
Roberts said due to the efforts of Parliamentarian Melissa Skerrit, Dominica is now equipped to host the 2nd OECS-ECCB International Netball Series. She said more than 80 million netball followers worldwide are watching the games.

She said to popularise Netball Game in Dominica; the teachers must make more efforts and take it just like any other subject instead of just a sports break. The Special Envoy, Netball, also made some significant suggestions and said the game could be used to attain the Sustainable Development Goals. "Netball is no longer business as usual because there are so many opportunities as a netballer because the sports division is doing an excellent job in the schools; the netball association must be ready to take it to the next level," said Loreen Bannis Roberts - Special Envoy, Netball. Furthermore, she advised parents to encourage their children to opt for sports as a career and said kids can make a bright future out of it. "We are not all born to be doctors but the same level that the doctor achieved the medical doctor same way pursuing a career path in sports can achieve," said Roberts. She also said there is a bright future ahead in sports for girls and women in Dominica. Roberts said the Dominica government has the potential and is also placing infrastructures to advance sports in the country. "We have a proper outdoor facility for netball for, basketball for volleyball for tennis at the Windsor Park, and we have to do everything to protect, enhance what is there, and I want to commend the member of parliament for the Roseau Central constituency for her vision, passion for sports in the city," she added.Latest
