UDP declares Khalid Belisle as their senator in the national assembly

The United Democratic Party of Belize have appointed Khalid Belisle as their senator in the national assembly of the country.

Belmopan, Belize:  The United Democratic Party of Belize have appointed Khalid Belisle as their senator in the national assembly of the country, the party announced on Saturday. He will be replacing Senator Aldo Salazar. Khalid Belisle has served as Mayor of Belmopan earlier under the UDP administration. The party stated that the new appointment had been made on the indications of Leader of Opposition Patrick Faber.  United Democratic Party stated that the party leader Patrick Faber had named the party's three senators for the thirteenth national assembly; Senator Aldo Salazar would have been holding the seat temporarily until Belisle completed his duties as Mayor. Party noted in a press release that the transition is now being made as the Opposition Leader wrote the Governor-General on Thursday, May 20, indicating, "In accordance with Section 64(2) (e) of the Belize Constitution, I hereby write to advise Your Excellency to declare the seat of Senator Aldo Salazar vacant. In accordance with Section 61 (4) (b) of the Belize Constitution, I hereby nominate Mr Khalid Belisle to fill the seat that will be left vacant by Senator Aldo Salazar." In announcing the transition, the opposition leader Patrick Faber congratulated Khalid and stated, "I once again take the opportunity to thank Senator Aldo Salazar for his outstanding work as Senator and congratulate the incoming Senator Khalid Belisle."
