The High Command of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has reactivated the crime hotline 707 to make it easier for citizens and residents to share information with the Police.
Acting Commissioner of Police, Hilroy Brandy, said that the Police was already receiving tremendous support from the public. He attributed the success of the Police in several criminal matters to information received from concerned citizens and residents.
"Clearly, this demonstrates that people know that there are trustworthy Officers in the force and that it is critically important to say something if you see something. It is the duty of all citizens and residents to ensure that St. Kitts and Nevis is safe. We all benefit when our communities are peaceful, therefore we should all be on duty. The country belongs to all of us," Commissioner (Ag.) Brandy said.
A strict protocol for the hotline has been established and the Commissioner (Ag.) is assuring the public that all information shared will be confidential.
"We have put several things in place to ensure the safety of individuals who call, and to keep the information confidential. For example, only senior Police Officers are allowed to engage callers. Also, persons who use the hotline do not have to disclose their identity. Additionally, the phone is located in an area where only certain Officers will have access to it and these are just some of the measures we are taking. There are also procedures in place for how the information received is to be handled."
To report crime and criminal or suspicious activity persons can call the crime hotline by dialling 707. However, for emergencies or for immediate assistance persons should still dial 911. Remember, if you see something, say something.
