Jamaican policewoman pled guilty to smuggling cocaine into the United States on Thursday in a federal district court in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As per reports, some of the cocaine was found in her vagina and stomach.
United States District Judge Rodolfo A Ruiz II will sentence Allen on June 15, 2022. The accused is identified as Shelian Allen.
As per a press release issued by the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida on Thursday, the 42-year-old faces up to 40 years in federal prison.
Following her arrest in Florida in February for lottery scamming and drug trafficking, Allen was suspended from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).
According to the press statement, Allen confirmed that she landed at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on February 3 on a flight from Montego Bay, Jamaica, after which US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) discovered "a packet of cocaine inside her vagina and a package of cocaine inside each of her bra cups."
Allen's stomach also contained 90 pellets of packaged cocaine that she had swallowed. After being brought to a hospital, the Jamaican law enforcement officer deposed the cocaine packs.
Authorities suspect the Allen has associations with an organisation with bases in the United States and Jamaica. According to the news article, which cited US court filings, "a examination of multiple accounts related to this organisation indicated a loss total in excess of $1.69 million from 17 victims across the country."
