Dominican Warren Lawrence secures 28th all-time best time in 50m backstroke

The National Swimmer of Dominica, Warren Lawrence, proudly achieved the 28th all-time best time in the 50m backstroke in Switzerland at the Swiss Long Course National Championships.

In the 50m backstroke, Warren achieved a time of 27.00 in his heat and a time of 26.89 in the A finals, finishing in an excellent 6th place. This swimmer's performance is both the personal best and Dominica National Records.

He also swam the 50m butterfly and finished with a time of 25.91 in the B finals, also achieving another Personal Best and setting another National Record.

Lawrence has always shown his commitment and dedication towards the sport and represents the country at various regional and international levels.

Last year, the Dominican swimmer competed in the 50m Freestyle on the 28th and 50m backstroke in the World Aquatics Championships in Japan. He finished 79th out of 112 swimmers and 6th place in his heat with a time of 24.51s. This was a new national record for a Dominican swimmer and a new personal best record for him. In the 50m backstroke event, he finished in 9th place with a time of 27.45s. Lawrence was not only the first swimmer to represent Dominica at the Commonwealth Games but he was also the first swimmer to represent Dominica at the Swimming World Championship.

In October 2023, he won Gold in 50m Freestyle, Silver in 50m Back, and Bronze in 50m Butterfly at the Swiss Eastern Regional Championships (ROS).

The swimmer has always made the country proud by winning various awards at regional and international tournaments, showcasing his huge prowess in the sport. Meanwhile, several citizens and residents of Dominica extended their congratulations to him through their Facebook accounts and wished him luck in future endeavours.

“Congratulations, Warren and Woody. So proud of you guys. This is a huge achievement! Go Dominica,” wrote a user named Philippa while another said, “How awesome! Good luck!”
