Barbados shines at Routes Americas, wins top destination award

The Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc secured top honours at the prestigious Routes Americas Awards held last week in Bogota, Colombia. The authority emerged victorious in the destination category which recognised the island as the top destination for route development and unique marketing support strategies across the Americas.
Known as the most valuable awards for the route development community, the Routes Awards showcased the collaborations driving global air connectivity.
The awards specifically honour the outstanding achievements of the air service development community while highlighting the collaborative efforts between airports, airlines and the destinations they serve.While talking about this huge achievement, the Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Ian Gooding Edghill stated that this recognition reaffirms Barbados’ position as a prime destination in the Americas. He added that it also underscores the confidence that the airline partners have in the destination.
In addition to this, the award affirms the huge successes the country has achieved with the partners and the strong partnerships that it has built, added Minister Edghill.The Tourism Minister further remarked that the team’s focus on strengthening partnerships with airlines and industry stakeholders has been useful in driving increased capacity and, showcases the confidence that the partners have in Barbados, and allows the country to achieve sustainable tourism growth.
Meanwhile, the Director at BTMI Canada, Eusi Skeete, also expressed his immense gratitude for the award and said that the entire team is humbled to have won the Routes Americas Destination Award, which is a testimony to the robust relationships the country has built with its airline partners. He added that the team’s continued focus is on stimulating demand for the destination through targeted marketing initiatives in major markets, thus boosting the business case for more frequency and capacity from existing routes and the introduction of new gateways.The Director at BTMI USA, Peter Mayers stated that he was humbled and honoured to receive this prestigious destination award in recognition of the team’s work with the partners in advancing the network development plans.
He also thanked Routes for this formal acknowledgement of the efforts and pledged the continued support to the partners in pursuit of mutually beneficial results.
